Importance of the Kew Collections: Kill or Cure

Saturday 12 May 2018 at 10:30, St Anne’s, Kew Green

Our Chairman, Lady Neale

Lady Neale with our guest speaker, Professor Monique Simmonds

A sell out event! Professor Monique S.J. Simmonds, the distinguished Deputy Director of Science at the Royal Botanic Gardens, gave us a hugely thought-provoking overview of the unique and diverse collections at Gardens.  It was intriguing to see how the research (all carried out on our door step) has reached far and wide to further the world’s knowledge about the medicinal uses of plants to treat diseases such as Aids, Cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Malaria.  Not to mention how some of the research has helped identify adulterated material entering the trade and has also helped in solving crime. Fascinating.

Thank you to all those who attended, we raised over £1,000!
